Christian Music Today had the awesome opportunity to interview John Cooper, the lead singer of Christian mega-band Skillet, who’s 2003 Collide album (Skillet’s 6th album, though band members have changed dramtically over the years) rocketed the band to seeming over-night success, both in the Christian as well as the secular realm, with popular radio hits like Savior, Open Wounds and A Little More. Now the band has a new album coming out, called Comatose, releasing on Oct. 3rd.
Read the full interview and watch the music video for “Savior” below.

From the hilltop village of Almaa Al Shaab on Lebanon’s border with Israel, it’s impossible to see either the Israeli jets firing from the sky or the Hezbollah guerrillas answering from their dug-in positions in the valley below. But for more than three weeks, the sounds of war have been the soundtrack of life in Almaa al Shaab.
As Israeli air strikes in search of Hezbollah targets have flattened neighboring villages, nearly everyone along the border has fled north or into Christian villages such as Almaa al Shaab, where Hezbollah’s Shiite Muslim fighters are less likely to be hiding.
But Almaa al Shaab isn’t safe, either. It’s perched on a narrow ridge between the Israeli border, a half-mile away, and a valley from which Hezbollah launches dozens of short-range Katyusha rockets each day, from positions so close that the crack of an outgoing Katyusha rattles windows and silverware.
Still, 142 people continue to live here, for one reason or another.

The National Day of Prayer, General Council of the Assemblies of God, Assemblies of God U.S. Missions and Southwestern Assemblies of God University are joining forces with Calvary Church in Irving, Texas, and Nashville’s Cornerstone Church to promote the NDP’s Unite America Tour.
The August 14 till September 15 tour is a 33-day, 190-city and 13,923-mile cross-country odyssey aimed at restoring Christian morality. J. Don George, senior pastor of Calvary Church, and Maury Davis, senior pastor of Cornerstone Church, are leading a caravan of participants.
Starting in Irving, George and Davis will drive along the southern border of Texas and into the Midwest. Their specialty wrapped, NASCAR-style vehicles - a Mercedes Benz SLK230 and a BMW Z4 donated by Sun Motor Cars - will serve as moving billboards with every inch covered with patriotic colors championing the 2007 National Day of Prayer. At each stop they will distribute handouts on the topic of salvation and prayer, along with prayer wristbands and other materials.
Ten years ago, the long-time friends took a motorcycle tour around the continental U.S. borders. They will follow that route closely in the NDP cars.
“We traveled through 29 states in 25 days,” George says. “Seeing that the moral and spiritual conditions have not changed significantly for the better, America still needs prayer.”
Davis believes this tour will have more of an impact because of the backing of the NDP, AG U.S. Missions and General Council.

It’s a few days late, but end last month The White House send out a press release about religion and the US motto. To quote the President of the USA:
“On the 50th anniversary of our national motto, “In God We Trust,” we reflect on these words that guide millions of Americans, recognize the blessings of the Creator, and offer our thanks for His great gift of liberty.
From its earliest days, the United States has been a Nation of faith. During the War of 1812, as the morning light revealed that the battle‑torn American flag still flew above Fort McHenry, Francis Scott Key penned, “And this be our motto: ‘In God is our trust!’” His poem became our National Anthem, reminding generations of Americans to “Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.” On July 30, 1956, President Dwight Eisenhower signed the law officially establishing “In God We Trust” as our national motto.
Today, our country stands strong as a beacon of religious freedom. Our citizens, whatever their faith or background, worship freely and millions answer the universal call to love their neighbor and serve a cause greater than self.
