Music Video: Demon Hunter - Undying

Wrapping up our excursion into the world of Demon Hunter music videos (for the time being anyway. The music video for One Thousand Apoligies is in the making) is the final Demon Hunter single, the anthem for ever-lasting life in Christ, Undying.

This song is off of Demon Hunter’s latest album, The Triptych (trip·tych [n.] 1. A work consisting of three painted or carved panels that are hinged together. 2. A hinged writing tablet consisting of three leaves, used in ancient Rome. [From Greek triptukhos, threefold]), an album released with three special edition covers, and the hot video quickly became a staple of MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball for metal fans everywhere.

Undying is a heavy but melodic call to life and positivity. As always, it’s a refreshing breath of air for the metal scene by one of the biggest Christian metal bands and a great follow-up to last albums hit Not Ready to Die.

Ryan Clark, lead singer and songwriter for the band says, “Undying” is an anthem for those who will live eternally. It’s about taking pride in having everlasting life and not being afraid to show it. The “final heartbreak” spoke of in the song is referring to death- the last time you will break anyone’s heart here on earth. And after that- blinding lights will guide our way into Heaven. The name that I have coined for those who have accepted eternal life is the “undying.”

When I was younger, there were a few Christian metal bands that made me really excited to be a Christian. They would talk about Christ in a way that I could relate to, in a song that I thought was unashamed and forthright. I wrote this song to give kids today that same feeling of pride in being a Christian.

Song Comments by Ryan Clark, “This song is an anthem for eternal life. I wrote this song because I love the idea that with everlasting life, we are in essence, untouchable and invincible. I wanted to convey that concept in a way that made people feel strong and proud. I remember back in the day when bands like Living Sacrifice and Embodyment made me feel totally proud to be a Christian. That’s the feeling I wanted to give listeners with Undying.”
